A woman has serious head injuries after allegedly being beaten with a hammer in the Hamilton suburb of Frankton.
Police officers were called to Marire Ave in Frankton about 6pm on Monday night.
"On arrival they found a woman who had allegedly been badly beaten with a hammer at a nearby property," Detective Sergeant Nicholas Stark said.
"She managed to escape and get to the Marire Ave address, where emergency services were called and she was taken to hospital with serious head injuries."
The alleged offender was known to the woman and has not been located.
Police want to speak to anyone was driving along Norton Road between 7pm and 8pm Monday night, who saw a distressed woman.
