A 45-year-old woman has been charged with murder after a man died at a Hamilton house early this morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Neilson said police were called to a Rototuna address at about 2am and found a man in a critical condition.
Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, he said.
Neilson said the man and woman were known to each other and police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the death.
Police have been at the scene all day conducting a scene examination and would continue to speak to witnesses over the coming day.
Neilson said he understood this tragic incident would have shaken the community and police and Victim Support have been and would continue to work closely to offer support for those involved.
Officers were expected to remain at the scene over the next two days.
