Two 19-year-old Hastings men have been jointly charged with the murder of Javon Aranui.
Aranui suffered a serious head injury in the vicinity of Jellicoe Street and Hood Street, Hastings, in the early hours of 20 December.
He was flown to Wellington Hospital where he underwent surgery later that day but later died.
"Our investigation team have been working tirelessly to get this result and I would like to thank the members of the public who have come forward and provided information to assist the investigation," Detective Senior Sergeant Sally Patrick said.
The pair were due to appear in the Hastings District Court on 29 February.
