Two people are critically hurt and a section of State Highway in Otago is closed after two cars collided.
Police were called to the scene at Fruitlands, near Alexandra, about noon on Wednesday.
A third person had moderate injuries, police said.
Drivers are warned to expect delays to avoid travelling in the area if possible.
