Police are investigating after a pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a truck in Dannevirke.
Emergency services were called to the scene on State Highway 2 near the intersection of Robertshawe Cres in the Tararua town, just after midday.
A spokesman from St John said they were notified of the incident at 12.10pm and sent an ambulance and a helicopter.
He said one patient was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital in a serious condition.
Traffic was diverted and the highway was expected to be closed for at least two hours.
Police in Napier had resources stretched less than an hour later with two significant incidents just a few hundred metres and a few minutes apart.
A 40-year-old woman alleged to have driven a car at police in a possible attempt to run them down was arrested at a property in Barker Rd, Marewa.
Police were at the address about 12.45pm and were working to "locate a person of interest," police said.
No officers were struck, there were no injuries, and the woman was arrested on an existing warrant while further charges were being considered.
About the same time, a person understood by Hawke's Bay Today to be a teenaged girl or young woman was reported to have possible serious injuries after a motorcycle hit a tree beside a path through the Chambers St green belt, opposite Napier Boys' High School.
No further details were available late afternoon, but police said the two incidents were not linked.
