The person who died in a fatal crash in Levin was using a walking frame, not a mobility scooter as first announced by police.

In a clarification issued today, police have apologised for saying the crash that occurred yesterday afternoon involved a truck and a mobility scooter.

"This was based on early information from the scene, however, we have now confirmed that the person who died was using a walking frame, not a mobility scooter," police said in a statement.

A person who stopped to help at the crash scene was using a mobility scooter, but was not involved in the crash.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash which happened on State Highway 1 at the intersection of Queen Street East and Oxford Street were continuing.
