Gisborne Police have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a 19-month-old toddler.

The child was brought into Gisborne Hospital with critical injuries on Thursday 6 January.
They were subsequently flown to Starship Hospital but died today.
A police spokesperson said they were continuing to investigate the nature and circumstances surrounding the child's injuries.
A scene examination has been completed at a residential address in the Gisborne suburb of Te Hapara.
