Papua New Guinea's hopes of qualifying for the 2023 Cricket World Cup are on shaky ground following a second defeat in three games at the World Cricket League 2 event in Namibia.

After electing to bat first, the Barramundis were bowled out for just 127 runs in the 40th over against the USA, who chased down their target inside 20 overs without losing wicket.

PNG lost their opening match against hosts Namibia by three wickets on Saturday, after being dismissed for 118, before Tony Ura led the way with 87 from 101 balls as the Melanesian side beat Hong Kong by the same margin the next day.

The Barramundis side are back in action today against winless Canada in their penultimate group match before facing top of the table Oman on Friday.

The top four teams from the round robin phase will be promoted to Cricket World Cup League 2, which forms part of the qualifying process for the 2023 World Cup.
