There has been a public outcry in Vanuatu after a six-year old girl was allegedly abducted, raped then killed in the capital Port Vila.

A suspect in police custody is a former prisoner who had been released on parole.

The victim's parents told the Daily Post they wanted the law changed so all convicted rapists and murderers received the death penalty.

The victim was reported to have been asleep with her grandmother when she was allegedly abducted, violated and then killed.
