Sport: Madang FC ready for OFC Champions League debut

12:14 pm on 25 February 2017

Madang FC will make their OFC Champions League debut this evening against fellow newcomers AS Central Sport from Tahiti.

The Papua New Guinea club were a late call-up after 2010 winners Hekari United were disqualified by Oceania Football earlier this month.

Club chairman Dr Miok Komolong says they initially tried to recruit some new players to boost their squad but it proved too difficult.

He said despite only having a couple of weeks to prepare they are looking forward to their Group A opener.

"We have actually played a friendly against Lae City Dwellers and our boys are ready. They have done their preparation and they are ready for this tournament," he said.

Samoan club champions Lupe Ole Soaga are also in action tonight at the Stade Numa Daly in Nouméa, against the host team, New Caledonia champions AS Magenta.

Group B action kicks off tomorrow with Cook Islands champions Puaikura FC up against last year's Champions League runners-up, Team Wellington.

Meanwhile Hienghène Sport will have plenty of home support in Kone when they take on Fiji club champions Ba.
