A jury has been told an Auckland police custody officer showed off both his police and volunteer firefighter uniforms before allegedly raping a woman he met online.
Shane Brian Clayden has pleaded not guilty to rape and unlawful sexual connection with a 34-year-old woman he met on the dating website Zoosk in June 2013.
The 39-year-old's police interview has been played to the court.
Mr Clayden told the detective he picked the woman up at the Countdown carpark in Birkenhead, and took her back to his house in Whangaparoa.
He denied the claim put to him that he told her he was a police officer, though he did admit showing her a police uniform and his firefighter gear before having consensual sex with her.
Afterwards, Mr Clayden said the woman demanded to be taken home, so he dropped her at a BP station in Silverdale saying it was late and he did not have enough money for petrol to take her any further.
But the Crown said in its closing argument the case boiled down to the issue of consent, and the woman did not give that to Mr Clayden.
It said the woman thought she was meeting him in Birkenhead simply for a drink or a bite to eat.
However, when he got her back to his house in Whangaparoa, he showed off the cast-off police uniforms he had at home before raping her and dropping her at a petrol station 50km from where she lived, it said.
