One person is dead, and three people have been taken to hospital, after a car and a bus collided at Ohaaki, on State Highway 5 near Taupo.
Waikato police say the ManaBus.com Limited vehicle was carrying 64 passengers, as well as the driver and an attendant when the crash happened just before five this evening.
One of the car's occupants died at the scene, and two others have been taken to Rotorua Hospital with moderate injuries.
Three bus passengers and the driver were treated on site for minor injuries.
Another person on the bus was taken to hospital.
ManaBus.com has sent two buses to the scene, and the police say efforts are being made to keep passengers dry amid heavy rain.
Southbound traffic is being diverted through Ohaaki Road and Broadlands Road, and northbound is being diverted via Te Toki Road.
