The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League believes the Chairman's Invitational Nines has the potential to become one of the most popular tournaments in the Southern Hemisphere.

A Chairman's Super Nines concluded earlier this month, featuring teams in the

Southern, Highlands, New Guinea Islands and Northern confederates.

The top two top finishers from each regional competition joined representative teams from the Digicel Cup and several invitational teams in the main tournament in Lae.

PNG Rugby League chair Sandis Tsaka believes they can make the tournament the most popular Nines event outside of the Auckland NRL tournament.

He says this year's event was a trial, with a number of ideas tested and they're confident it will grow and become bigger and better in the years to come.
