8:08 am on 21 February 2015

Taupo police say two groups rescued in separate incidents last night were totally unprepared.

A rescue helicopter went out after police received a call from four young Asian tourists who had become lost on Mt Ngauruhoe in Tongariro National Park, about 7pm.

The women were found a short time later and returned to their car cold, but uninjured.

Sergeant Shane McNally said the young women were not prepared at all for the tramp - wearing street clothes in an alpine environment.

The helicopter was then diverted to find two boaties on Lake Taupo who were reported long overdue from their trip.

The two were quickly found.

Police said the pair had no form of communication with them.
