Sport: Newcastle coach believes Samoan teen will perform

The Fiji Coach Rick Stone says Samoan teen Sione Mata'utia has the maturity to handle international rugby league after a brief introduction to the senior grades.

Mata'utia was selected for the Kangaroos after only playing seven NRL games for the Knights, who Rick Stone will coach next season.

Stone says Mata'utia deserves every accolade.

He says the 18 year old also won't disgrace himself if he gets on the park during the Four Nations tournament which starts this weekend.

"Physically and mentally he's a pretty mature kid and a really impressive young man both on and off the field and every time we ask him to go to the next level he seems to handle it with consumate ease so I'd expect him to handle the jump again."

If Mata'utia plays, he will be the youngest player to ever don the Australian test jersey.
