US man pays fine in Bahamas pedestrian killing

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Authorities in the Bahamas have released a U.S. tourist from jail after he pleaded guilty to killing a pedestrian and paid a $5,000 fine.

Jack Christopher Botero of Montauk, New York, was charged with dangerous driving and killing 32-year-old Bobby Branville Thompson on Tuesday on Eleuthera island.

Botero's lawyer said his client was not drunk or under the effects of any substance and that he and his family were going to dinner that night.

Botero would have faced one year in prison if he had not paid the fine. He was released on Thursday.
