A fugitive wanted for the murder of homeless man Maqbool Hussain in Auckland has been captured.
Justin Vance Turner, 28, was located by police in Taupo at 12.30pm today.
Police were called by members of the public who noticed Turner acting suspiciously near a wharf.
Detectives from Auckland are travelling to Taupo today to speak to Turner.
At this stage he has not been charged with murder but Auckland City police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said appropriate charges would be considered by the Operation Gridley team, who have been investigating Mr Hussain's brutal death.
A warrant to arrest Turner for murder was issued in the Auckland District Court yesterday and police in Taupo used that to lock him up today.
No further information was available about how Turner got to Taupo or how long he had been there.
