New stadium zoned into Dunedin district plan

Dunedin City Council has confirmed changes to the district plan to accommodate the city's new stadium.

The almost $200 million enclosed stadium project is moving ahead now that legal challenges to the district plan changes have been dropped.

The changes involve rezoning the industrial area where the stadium is to be built, making a new stadium zone and extending the existing campus zone.

The lobby group Stop The Stadium was challenging the re-zoning decision in the Environment Court, but has now withdrawn its appeal, saying the cost of the process was too prohibitive.

That paved the way for the city council to confirm the plan changes.
