Still no sign of missing Dunedin teen

Searchers yesterday again found no sign of the body of a missing Dunedin teenager believed drowned in the Clutha River, despite searching from Roxburgh to Balclutha.

The youth disappeared while swimming with a friend on Tuesday and has not been seen since.

Senior Sergeant Mike Cook, of Alexandra, said search and rescue teams including police worked their way up from Balclutha to Beaumont yesterday, and the Alexandra and Roxburgh teams took over from there back to Roxburgh.

Contact Energy had lowered the river from 8am but the stored water could only be held back until 1pm.

Snr Sgt Cook said the Balclutha team was able to continue searching for longer as the increased flow took longer to reach the lower parts of the river.

Police will talk to the family of the missing teenager before making any further decisions on the search.

The family has asked police not to release the name of the teenager.
