Apple releases iPhone Configuration Utilities for business

Designed to simplify the configuration of a fleet of iPhones, Apple's iPhone …

Amidst all the iPhone 2.0 software, App Store, and iTunes 7.7 commotion this morning, Apple even managed to think of enterprise and business customers. The company released three configuration utilities for both OS X and Windows that simplify the iPhone setup and deployment process.

iPhone Configuration Web Utility 1.0 for Mac and iPhone Configuration Web Utility 1.0 for Windows are exactly what they sound like: web utilities designed for enterprise and business customers to "easily create, sign and distribute configuration profiles using a web browser." The profiles are XML that contain security policies, VPN configurations, WiFi settings, Exchange settings, and more.

Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility 1.0 for Mac OS X goes a little above and beyond the web utilities to let users "track and install provisioning profiles and authorized applications, and capture device information including console logs." A similar Windows client is likely on its way.
