Check out this AI chatbot that doesn’t spy on your every move
ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Grok… that’s just scratching the tip of the iceberg. There are now so many AI chatbot services out there, most of them run by American tech giants, and most of them are monitoring our conversations, collecting our inputs, and possibly even sharing that data with others. Is there an alternative for the small remnant of society that still cares about privacy and personal data? Yes! That alternative is called Proton Lumo, which we first learned about back in July. Proton is a Swiss company that’s best known for Proton Mail, the encrypted email service that started back in 2014. Since then, Proton has expanded its portfolio with all kinds of other privacy-focused alternatives to mainstream apps, including Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Calendar, and Proton Wallet. Proton Lumo is the latest addition to the company’s arsenal, an AI that runs on servers in Europe and incorporates models from companies such as Mistral and Nvidia. Joel Lee / Foundry Like its competitors, Lumo can answer questions, summarize documents, and generate text. But the difference is that everything you do is private and no one else can access your history. The drawback to Lumo is that it’s more limited than its competitors, which comes with the no-tracking and privacy-centric territory. It also can’t create images or videos. You can try Lumo for free without registering, but you can unlock additional features by logging in. You can also lift the usage limits with a Lumo Plus subscription for $12.99/month.

Need SD/microSD slots in your laptop? This tiny adapter is 50% off
Does your laptop have a card reader slot? Mine doesn’t! And if yours doesn’t either, you know how much that sucks—especially when you need to grab SD or microSD footage from a dashcam, a security cam, a gaming handheld, or even a CPAP machine. Well, you can fix this issue with Anker’s simple 2-in-1 card reader for just $8.99 on Amazon. That’s a delicious 50% off its normal $17.99 price and the best discount we’ve ever seen on this nifty little accessory. Think about what else you can get for $9 these days, then think about how much value those things offer versus this gadget. It’s a steal! I love this little adapter because it plugs right into your laptop’s USB-C port, and most laptops have USB-C ports these days. From there, it has an SD slot and a microSD slot. All you have to do is slot in your card and you’re good to go. It’s compatible with a wide range of SD and microSD cards, from the oldest to the newest. The Anker 2-in-1 SD/microSD card reader comes with an 18-month warranty, so you can get it replaced if anything happens. It’s unlikely that you’ll have any issues with this, but it’s nice to know it’s there. This is a fantastic accessory that comes in handy more often than you’d think, so don’t pass up this opportunity to snag this Anker 2-in-1 card reader adapter before this hot deal expires! Save 50% on this 2-in-1 SD/microSD card reader for your laptopBuy now at Amazon

This Asus gaming laptop with an RTX 4060 is just $650
PC gaming on a budget is always tricky. You can double those issues if you’re looking for a gaming laptop. But today you can grab an Asus TUF laptop with an AMD Ryzen processor and RTX 4060 graphics card for just $649.99 from Staples, a solid discount on a reliable budget pick. The TUF A15 is already fairly affordable at its $900 retail price, considering the much-loved AMD/Nvidia combo. That’s a six-core Ryzen 5 7535HS processor and a GeForce RTX 4060 discrete card with 8GB of memory. That’s on top of 16GB of DDR5 RAM in the laptop itself, plus 512GB of storage, both of which can be upgraded easily with just a screwdriver. This is a fairly typical budget gaming design, which means it’s a chunky boy at 0.88 inches (22.4mm) thick and almost five pounds maximum (2.22kg). But that means it also gets a 15.6-inch 1080p screen with a 144Hz refresh rate, which should be easy to hit on most games at medium settings with its specs, plus a beefy 90-watt-hour battery. That won’t win any marathons if you’re gaming on it, but the 100-watt charger should get it back up to full quickly. Double USB-C (one USB 4) and USB-A ports, full-sized HDMI, and full-sized Ethernet should have you covered for all your port needs. You can get all the info you need on this particular model (the 2023 version) from PCWorld’s full review. Gaming laptops with a solid graphics card at this price tend to sell out quickly, so hop on the sale fast if you’re in the market. If not, be sure to check out PCWorld’s roundup of the best laptops.
