15.8 million PayPal accounts at risk after stolen passwords put up for sale
A hacker going by the name Chucky_BF has allegedly stolen details for 15.8 million PayPal accounts and is selling them on an internet forum at a bargain price of just $750 USD. The treasure trove of data, which is being stored in a TXT file, is said to be 1.1 GB in size. However, the authenticity of the PayPal data has not yet been confirmed. You can see a screenshot of the offer in this social media post . According to the hacker, the PayPal passwords are available in plain text and the email addresses of these PayPal accounts originate from Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, and various country-specific domains. ??Cyber Alert – PayPal??Do you have a PayPal account? It might be time to change your password.A threat actor using the alias "Chucky_BF" claims to be selling 15.8 million email and plaintext password pairs linked to PayPal accounts worldwide. The authenticity of this claim… pic.twitter.com/oRz9J1BESC— Hackmanac (@H4ckmanac) August 16, 2025 How the stolen PayPal data was acquired As of this writing, the hacker hasn’t said where the data came from or how much of it is still up to date. In this social media post, well-known security expert Troy Hunt suspects that the hacker didn’t steal the data directly from PayPal’s servers since PayPal doesn’t store passwords in plaintext. Most likely they were taken from users, perhaps via infostealer malware. According to security site Hackread, which checked some of the data, there are some test accounts and fake accounts interspersed among the PayPal accounts, but many are genuine. Looking at the PayPal Newsroom, the company has not yet issued a statement about this as of this writing. Here’s what you should do now If you have a PayPal account, you should immediately go check your transaction history and account settings for any suspicious activity. You should also change your PayPal password ASAP—and if you use the same password for other accounts, you should change those account passwords as well. Consider your password compromised. How Ryzen’s Precision Boost Overdrive supercharges your AMD processor
A performance boost can be achieved with just a few clicks — without the need for traditional overclocking. AMD’s Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) provides a simple way to enhance Ryzen CPU performance. Building on the existing Precision Boost technology, which automatically increases clock rates based on load, temperature, and power supply, PBO allows for even more generous operating conditions. The processor can run longer and more frequently in the more powerful Turbo mode. If you wish, you can also use the so-called “Curve Optimizer” to reduce voltage (undervolting) and further improve efficiency. In many cases, motherboards already come with profiles for AMD’s PBO – for increasing the boost clocks, for example. The default settings simplify performance tuning. IDG Depending on the processor, motherboard, and cooling, PBO can noticeably boost performance. In tests with a Ryzen 7 7700X, multi-core performance in the popular Cinebench CPU benchmark improved by about eleven percent, with a 2.6 percent gain in single-core performance. The current Ryzen 9000 series benefits especially, as it works more efficiently and offers higher thermal headroom. However, a quality air or water cooler and a motherboard with a stable power supply (VRMs) are important. AMD’s Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) can tickle more performance out of the chips in Ryzen processors relatively easily – provided there is good cooling. AMD PBO can be activated either directly in the BIOS or through AMD’s Ryzen Master desktop tool. Many motherboards come with ready-made PBO profiles, including higher boost clocks or customized temperature limits. The Curve Optimizer function lets you optimize the processor’s voltage, which can reduce heat and fan noise (and potentially even increase clock speeds). Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) can be enabled in the BIOS (UEFI) or through AMD’s Ryzen Master app, which allows more precise tuning.IDG Advanced users can also manually adjust the PPT, TDC, and EDC parameters, which determine the maximum amount of power the processor is allowed to consume. In practice, however, the motherboard’s capabilities usually set the limit. In conclusion, if you have a modern AMD Ryzen processor and a solid system with good cooling, you should definitely give PBO a try. It’s a simple and safe way to get more performance from your system (without traditional overclocking).
