Was Mona Lisa pregnant when she posed? (AP)

Was the subject of the most famous painting in history pregnant? A French art expert said Wednesday that Mona Lisa was either expecting or had recently given birth when she sat for Leonardo da Vinci' 16th-century masterpiece. Art expert Michel Menu says laser scanning shows that Mona Lisa, who has been identified by researchers as Lisa Gherardini, wife of an obscure Florentine merchant, was wearing fine gauze on her dress, something Menu says was commonly worn by either new mothers or soon-to-be mothers. The painting is shown here being photographed at the Louvre on April 26, 2004. (AP Photo/Amel Pain, File)AP - Researchers using three-dimensional technology to study the Mona Lisa say the woman depicted in Leonardo da Vinci's 16th-century masterpiece was either pregnant or had recently given birth when she sat for the painting.
